Stephan BonnarUFC Hall of Famer, died Thursday, December 22 of presumed heart complications while at work, according to the UFC.

“The UFC family is saddened by the passing of UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar. We send our sincerest condolences to his family and friends,” the UFC announced on Instagram.

Stephan Bonnar was one of the most important fighters to ever compete in the Octagon. Bonnar helped popularized UFC into the mainstream when he starred in the first season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2005. It was his bout against Forrest Griffin that had fans glued to television screens which is regarded as one of the best fights of all time.Bonnar and Griffin were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013 with White saying during the ceremony: “There has never been a more important fight in the history of the UFC.”

UFC fighter Stephan Bonnar died due to a heart attack. UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar has died at the age of 45.The UFC confirmed the heartbreaking news on social media, leaving fighters and fans across the MMA community shattered.Bonnar was a finalist on the first ever season of The Ultimate Fighter and was credited by UFC boss Dana White as saving the promotion when he and Forest Griffin stood toe-to-toe and unleashed at the end of a hellacious fight during the season finale.

No official cause of death has been released.

UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar said a series of frenzied selfie videos posted over the weekend were his attempt to document and protect himself after being denied hospital treatment because of his stance on COVID-19 vaccinations. Bonnar, 44, told MMA Fighting he went to the emergency room seeking pain medication for a broken vertebrae in his back and an injured wrist he sustained two weeks ago in a pro wrestling match. After revealing that he wasn’t vaccinated, he said he was forced to wait for hours because the emergency room doctor had prioritized COVID-19 patients. When he demanded treatment, he said he was confronted by hospital security.

Stephan Bonnar Family

Bonnar and his longtime girlfriend were married on October 30, 2009 in TuscanyItaly. The couple have one son, Griffin Brandon, named after Forrest Griffin and in memory of Andrea's late brother, Brandon Brown.

Bonnar loved the music of The Who, and used their song " Eminence Front as his intro to his UFC fights. Bonnar also did commentary for the televised mixed martial arts programming. He was notably the WEC's colour commentator, calling 5 of their final 7 fights. He also appeared as an analyst on the ESPN2 series MMA Live, and on UFC broadcasts on Fox television channels.

Bonnar, who had retired from mixed martial arts, was elected president of North Star Combat.

Bonnar was charged with DUI in Nevada on October 28, 2018. The Nevada highway patrol received numerous reports about a red Cadillac that Bonnar was driving. They also observed Bonnar making dangerous lane changes and driving recklessly at around 1:15 p.m. The NHP arrived at the scene to find Bonnar with both his hands tied and strung up on each side of his car handles. According to witnesses, Bonnar tried to escape the accident scene but was stopped by pedestrians who forced him to be "hog tied" to his vehicle. The entire exchange was captured by the responding officer's body camera and aired on PD Cam season 4. Officers claimed they could smell alcohol in Bonnar’s breath and inside Bonnar’s vehicle. Bonnar was taken into custody immediately. He refused to obey or respond to the officers' commands and was forced to be carried inside the patrol car. Bonnar was taken to the Clark County jail. He refused to comply with officers' commands and had to be carried inside the back of the patrol car.

Bonnar, 45, died December 22, 2022.  UFC released a statement indicating that it was believed Bonnar had died from a heart attack while at work.
